Our Story, Mission & Values

Dijitali Maths is a mathematics learning organization founded in Kenya with a simple belief: every child can learn mathematics, but not every child has been given a way of learning it that works for them.

Our Mission

To Make Maths Engaging, Understandable & Accessible

“To make mathematics more engaging, understandable and accessible by creating learner-centred experiences that help every child build mathematical understanding, confidence and curiosity.”

Our Vision

A World of Capable Mathematical Thinkers

“A world where every learner sees themselves as capable of learning and using mathematics.”

Our Core Purpose:

To challenge the myth that some children are simply “not maths people” and provide the doors they need to flourish.

How We Started

Born From A Learner's Struggle & A Teacher's Insight

Dijitali Maths grew directly out of our founder's own journey. As a child in Kenya, she struggled with mathematical concepts and was made to feel that she was simply "not a maths person." She counted on her fingers and sang to make sense of numbers, but school expected mathematics to be grasped only one way.

Years later, as a mathematics teacher at Kayole 1 Comprehensive School in Nairobi, she recognized the exact same struggle in her students: curious, brilliant children losing self-esteem because traditional rote memorization wasn't designed for their learning style.

What began with learner-centered weekend activities has grown into games-based learning, hands-on manipulatives, digital tools, holiday camps, teacher workshops, and community math festivals across Nairobi and Nakuru counties.

Our 5 Core Values

These five principles guide how we design every session, workshop, and game at Dijitali Maths.

BELIEVE

We believe every learner is capable of mathematical growth when provided the right environment and entry point.

DISCOVER

We encourage curiosity, exploration, and experimentation rather than simply spoon-feeding procedural answers.

PLAY

We use play, games, and creativity to make mathematical thinking memorable, engaging, and joyful.

INCLUDE

We recognize that different learners need different doors into the same core mathematical understanding.

GROW

We focus on progress, resilience, and continuous confidence rather than labelling learners by temporary mistakes.

Brenda Atieno Odhiambo

Founder & Learning Designer, Dijitali Maths

“The problem was never that I couldn't learn. It was that no one had shown me how, for me.”

Brenda is a mathematics educator and learning designer from Kenya. Her personal journey with mathematics began with childhood struggles—she loved games and learned through play, but school demanded strict procedural memorization.

That experience shaped a lifelong mission: when a child struggles with maths, it is almost never a lack of intelligence. It is a mismatch between the teaching medium and how that child discovers meaning.

Through Dijitali Maths, Brenda has spearheaded hands-on teaching workshops for over 400 teachers, created reusable manipulative kits from accessible local materials, and led mathematics enrichment for 1,000+ children in public and community schools.
